My first three months with Grey Power have passed in a flash which brings me to the wonderful support and encouragement I have received from the Federation – thank you! I love bringing your voice to members and showcasing the work you do on behalf of all Kiwi seniors.
As well as keeping up with Grey Power happenings, it was time to keep up on the road too. So, after 10-years trouble-free driving in our Kia Cerato, it was off to buy a new car. I now drive an extremely comfortable Kia Seltos with loads of luggage room for holidaying with friends.
Vehicle shopping aside, an all-inclusive, four-night package to see The Tina Turner Musical in Melbourne was an absolute winner. I have been to many great shows but I would have to rate this among the best. To say the crowd went wild is almost an understatement, the applause, the cheers, the glee…it was overwhelming.
To ‘stage’ Tina Turner’s incredible and often harrowing life, is no mean task. However, an immensely talented cast presented a powerful performance of the Queen of Rock n Roll’s roller coaster life from childhood through to her career and marriage with the abusive Ike Turner followed by her subsequent divorce struggles, despair and, finally, her triumphant return to charts and hearts.
While every cast member impacted, Zoe Demie, who plays the young Tina, deserves special mention – what a voice for one so young! Yet, it was the amazing, and entirely credible, Ruya Ngwenya, belting out Turner hits with joy and ferocity, which earned applause, after applause – a star performance with a sensational finale which brought everyone to their feet.
For those up for a powerhouse musical, our House of Travel package to Melbourne, inclusive of flights, accommodation and tickets, certainly delivered. I’m ready for more.
But for now, I am preparing for Christmas. We are eating out this year – no cooking (or dishes) for me. It promises to be a relaxed day with loved ones. I hope yours is too!
So, to all, a blessed and joyful Christmas and a safe holiday season. Enjoy this issue – loads of great reading and some seasonal treats too. I will catch up with everyone in March.
