From the Editor…March 2025

Hi everyone,

It hardly seems appropriate to say “Happy New Year” when we are entering the third month of the year and it’s officially autumn! We all know that time flies faster than ever as we move up the age ladder. It’s precarious at times but there can still be a sense of adventure in every step.

What’s more, here at the magazine we are embarking on new pathways to bring a wider range of articles which inform, guide, educate, and entertain our readers.

With the Federation’s worker bees strenuous in their efforts to advocate on behalf of New Zealand seniors, I am constantly amazed (and admiring) of their commitment to improving the lot of those 55 years and over.

To keep up the enduring work this Federation does, and to bring you a comprehensive publication which addresses so many issues and activities, the need for a small magazine subscription has become apparent.

My job is to ensure their messages reach you all and keep you updated on actions and outcomes. But we also want to inject some fresh elements – stories which remind us how resilient our seniors are, which showcase the work many are still doing in their 70s, 80s and even 90s and which provide us with pleasure or even new directions to explore.

To keep up the enduring work this Federation does, and to bring you a comprehensive publication which addresses many issues and activities, the need for a small magazine subscription has become apparent.

I believe $10 per year is a small price for four issues and I hope you will see the value. I am committed to bringing you a paper which will brighten your day and give you pause to reflect that life can be grand at any age. As an old school journo (and a book lover) I still love a publication I can pick up and put down as wish (without losing my place).

I should also mention March is Hearing Awareness month, a good time to take stock if hearing health has been on your mind (or that of your family). See the profile on James Whittaker, the passionate founder of new Grey Power partner, Resonate Health on page 15.

And, with that, it’s here’s to 2025! Perhaps I’ll meet some of you throughout the year; perhaps you’ll make our pages too!

In the meantime, every good wish, Helen Perry, editor.
