Have a laugh

Last month Grey Power magazine fielded the idea of a new column, Chit Chat, aimed at making members smile.

Readers were invited to send in short and sweet anecdotes on daily life, remarks by grandchildren, pet antics, spousal boo-boos, trip ups or mis-interpretations and more.

Wonderfully, one member, Anne Martin from the Waitakere association has sent in a delightful anecdote which I’m sure will make others smile.

She writes: When my grandson was about six years old and living next door, he popped over to ask if I could lend his Mum two eggs.  I gave him the eggs and said, ‘tell Mum they’re a gift, I don’t want them back’.

Very seriously he replied, “well, you can’t have ‘em back anyway, she’s putting them in a cake.”

Out of the mouths of babes!

And, from the editor’s file this little gem which will likely raise a laugh – at my husband’s expense!

Thankfully, he’s a good sport.

Hubby, who suffers from macular degeneration, was taking our daughter’s dog for a walk when he espied a local putting out her black rubbish bag for collection. As he neared, she said, “Want to play?” Taken aback he replied, “Who, me?”

It was only when stepping closer he saw that the ‘black bag’ was, in fact, a friendly, black labrador, and its equally friendly owner was addressing our daughter’s dog! I’m not sure if the husband was relieved or disappointed!

Other readers may have experienced many similar (or different) moments of hilarity which I would love them to share. So, with that, I’m hoping this next quarter will see one or two more items emailed to me from members. Surely, you all have a few precious moments which can give everyone a good laugh.
