If Government exists to serve the people, what went wrong?

Over our lifetimes, the disconnect has grown between government and people trying to raise a family and make ends meet. Many feel powerless against the decisions made ‘for us, without us.’

We see politicians making incomprehensible decisions that suit multi nationals but not Kiwis, poverty increasing, health care woefully inadequate and rates going up. We wonder how this was allowed to happen.

Freedom Party believes it can reverse this decline by giving everyone a say in running the country – this is direct democracy, based on one simple principle: People are the highest authority in a democracy. Government exists to serve the people, not rule over them.

A Structural Shift: Direct democracy, used by the respected Swiss system for centuries, shifts power away from political parties, requires transparent decision-making and entrusts our citizens to make good decisions.

“We’ve all seen Parliament adopt radically different legislation to election promises, with secret policies and laws which pop out of nowhere. Direct Democracy means YOU choose, YOU get to hold national AND local government to account,” says Sue Grey, Leader, Freedom Party.

Defending Financial Dignity: This focus on accountability protects the economic security of our retired population. As other parties propose new wealth and inheritance taxes, Freedom Party says ‘let’s find the best and fairest options to finance NZ, then ask the public to vote, based on facts.’

‘Taxing the capital of seniors undermines their financial security and is frightening for many’ Grey says. “Direct Democracy tools, such as the people’s veto, will ensure no large or small political party can push through punitive taxes without the consent of affected people.’

DO YOU WANT YOUR VOTE TO COUNT THIS TIME? AND FOR EVER?

NOW is the time to vote for a democratic system which will protect families from dangerous legislation, corporate interference and bungling politicians.
