We need your help

BY LEW FINDLAY - Membership/Association Support Grey Power NZ Federation INC.

Grey Power New Zealand often goes to the Government and advocates on behalf of older people to ministers, etc. One of our major points is the level of superannuation paid out to over 65-year-olds in this country. Along with others over the years, we have fought a continuous battle to not only maintain the level of super, but to always try to see it increase. Our advocacy success depends a lot on member numbers.

Why don’t you ask one of your friends to join us? Or even have a membership form always ready if somebody asks you about Grey Power. Together we can make a huge difference to the next generation of older people in New Zealand.

Our politicians take real note of numbers. That is why we are asking for your help to increase our membership, so the number of members in Grey Power will make our politicians sit up and listen to what we have to say.

What I am really asking you to do is to assist us in building up our membership. Each member must help, each association must do its best, and they and the national body must work together to increase Grey Power’s membership.

We must work as a team, not as a group of individuals, for the good of older people now and in the future. If each member of Grey Power asked one friend to join us the results would be incredible. More of our politicians would be lining up to speak to us.

Most older people vote

Remember most older people vote. Not all younger people do, so we carry an awful lot of influence with our elected members.

Why don’t you ask one of your friends to join us? Or even have a membership form always ready if somebody asks you about Grey Power. Together we can make a huge difference to the next generation of older people in New Zealand.

As Chair of the Standing Committee – Membership/Association Support of Grey Power New Zealand I would love to hear any practical ideas that you may have that might help us increase our membership.

Please do not hesitate to contact me or any other board member if you have anything that you think would help us increase our membership.

Also, talk to your own association on the matter of membership. Over the years people have always passed the buck and say it is somebody else’s job to work on membership. Well, I believe it’s everybody’s job. When we work together, we will see our organisation grow across the whole of New Zealand.
