Small group tours to out of the way places

South Island Tours NZ has small group tours designed with you in mind. Come and join the hundreds of people who have enjoyed their tours over the last 32 years.

From D’Urville Island with fishing and dining on fresh blue cod to Stewart Island where you can see kiwis in their natural habitat or dine on fresh kai moana at the South Seas Hotel there is much to do and admire.

Visit the West Coast white herons in nesting season, see the legendary Molesworth Station and hear its history or soak up the Akaroa French Festival celebrations. Here’s a chance to explore and get away from it all.

Our recent tour to the Canterbury foothills and rivers, was a resounding success. Travellers saw the grandeur of the Southern Alps and Canterbury’s braided rivers, close to the home of Mona Anderson, deep into Canterbury’s high country near Lake Coleridge and the Rangitata River.

We visited the legendary Mesopotamia and Erewhon Stations, experienced farm hospitality and enjoyed hearing the fascinating history of the area. Unique accommodation included two nights at Lake Coleridge and three nights at the fabulous Vicarage in Geraldine. A repeat small group tour has places available for February 2025, why not join us?

Recent Feedback:

This was a big tour without big distances: big mountains, big spaces, big skies, big rivers, big horses, big back country men and capable country women, all within two hours of Christchurch. It supported the adage, “We can only get to see these things by being in an organised group”.

The group heard from locals willing to share their ‘Big Country’ lives and enjoyed the comforts one expects ‘out on the plains’, including the gourmet delights of Geraldine, and meeting the man whose family is so much a part of Geraldine’s history, Michael Barker.
