Look forward to next summer

Many Grey Power members like to keep as fit as possible. A sound mind in a sound body is the aim. There are many means to that end. One of the most popular is regular walking. The challenge is the logistics, especially when venturing beyond your local area. That is where Footsteps has already been of huge assistance to so many, and they have just opened bookings for the 2023-24 season.

It begins with two islands. Their trip to Norfolk Island (2-9 November) includes not just some short walks but seven special experiences/events based on areas of historical and cultural interest. Later the same month, you can venture off-shore to Great Barrier Island (19-26 November), where time seems to stand still as you sample the network of gorgeous trails.

Wineglass Bay, Tasmania

In the new year, three consecutive and contiguous mainland regions invite exploration.

Nifty Northland (28 Jan-3 Feb) gathers up kauri forests, long straight beaches, pristine peninsulas, and much of our early history. The scenic attractions between Warkworth and Waiuku, including the Hauraki Gulf, are the focus of

Awesome Auckland (4-10 Feb). This is followed by the hidden gems of Wonderful Waikato (11-17 Feb): gushing waterfalls and springs, bird sanctuaries, wild coastline, and rolling hills. Do 1, 2 or all 3.

February-March presents the opportunity to saturate yourself in Australia’s sensational southeast. The Tasmania tour (25 Feb-16 March) visits every part of the state in an anti-clockwise loop, focusing on the 19 national parks. In Victoria (17 March-6 April), the Great Dividing Range offers its greatest array of walks, including the Great Ocean
Road, Grampians, Snowy Mountains and Wilsons Promontory.

A riot of autumn colours will greet you on the Tremendous TransAlpine excursion (14-20 April), incorporating Banks Peninsula, Craigieburn, Arthur’s Pass, Lake Brunner, Hakatere and Mount Peel. Or perhaps the highlights of Lakes Tekapo, Ruataniwha, Pukaki, Ohau, and Benmore, along with Mount Cook, will entice you to join the Amazing Alps to Ocean trip (21-27 April).
