Hello Readers,

Well, winter is here and I guess it’s time to hunker down and let chilly, wet weather pass by although some folk will likely escape to warmer climes whilst others enjoy the realm of winter sports.
But, right now, as we go to print, Federation board members and Grey Power delegates will be preparing to gather in Wellington for the AGM where I’m guessing there will be plenty to discuss.
Over the past three months I have heard from a number of members from across the country and it’s been a pleasure to chat with them and hear their views. I am especially delighted that a number confirmed they had or were intending to subscribe to the physical magazine – hooray!
Although I always hope the publication will provide interesting reading, I also hope some of you will use it to entice friends, and even family, to join Grey Power.
There seems to be a misconception that Grey Power is only for the very old. While our most senior members are invaluable, as we approach the AGM it is timely to remember we also need younger, fresh seniors or ‘nearly seniors’ to bring their skills and voices to help with the many issues advocated by the Federation.
For example, Grey Power’s campaign to improve specialist and surgery wait times is imperative in my view. My own sister, now in a rest home, has been waiting more than 250 days to see a gastroenterologist to no avail. A regular letter updates me on how long she has been waiting, yet, there is no mention of a consultation date. I think it’s time for me to battle on her behalf.
And, that’s just one area of concern. We cannot let the voice of senior Kiwis go unheard.
So, here’s to a successful AGM, renewed advocacy efforts and success in bringing about solutions.
In the meantime, happy reading and stay active over winter – pickleball is a great option. I’ll catch you all in spring!
Cheers
