IMPORTANT UPDATE! Economics force subscription shift

By Lew Findlay, Treasurer, Grey Power Federation

From Quarter 2 2025 the Federation Board has reluctantly decided to initiate a modest annual delivery charge for the quarterly Federation magazine.

Print and production costs have increased significantly and with a 40% increase in postage charges in 2024 free home delivery is no longer financially viable. This has been a very difficult decision to make, but with postage now at some $200,000 per year, the cost has become an unsustainable drain on our financial resources.

Therefore, the Federation has reluctantly agreed to introduce a small annual subscription fee of $10 per household for postal delivery of the hard copy. This will enable us to continue updating members on Federation activities and to provide high quality content across a range of topics. The digital version of our magazine will remain free.

Producing a magazine of this calibre involves substantial research, writing, editing and production investment.

Our media team is dedicated to delivering in-depth articles, captivating stories, and the latest updates across various fields. To maintain these high standards, and further enhance our offerings, we must ensure operations remain sustainable.

The March 2025 magazine will be the last issue mailed free to members’ homes.

By reducing our magazine costs, we will have funds available to:
  • Meet with parliamentarians and government Ministers four times a year instead of the current two, thus continuing to advocate on behalf of older people living in NZ.
  • Ensure there are more funds available for portfolio holders and standing committees. These funds will help address many issues which might otherwise be put aside due to lack of funds. Regular updates as to how funds are being used will ensure transparency and accountability.
  • Allow Federation representatives to support associations around the country, especially those which are struggling.
  • Investigate opportunities to make attendance at annual AGMs more economical.
