Food Fact:

With today’s abundance of restaurants and cafes at our disposal as well as gourmet meal delivery services, plus an enormous range of fresh meats, vegetables and fruits to choose from at supermarkets, eating out and entertaining at home has become a popular pastime across many lifestyles.

From all those options, diners have also become more discerning and often refer to themselves as ‘foodies.’ But who coined the ‘foodie’ term first and when?

It is believed the term originated in 1984 from the former UK-based women’s fashion magazine, Harpers & Queen. The magazine merged with Harper’s Bazaar in 2006 with the combined magazine initially focused on high society and British aristocracy.

Today, Harpers Bazaar remains a sophisticated, elegant and even provocative publication focused on fashion, beauty, lifestyle, and culture.  What’s more, ‘foodies’ are out there in their droves, enjoying the fruits of the ocean and the earth.
