Marlborough Grey Power secures grant to help counter isolation

The Marlborough District Council opened grant applications for community organisations to hold a “Post Covid” event in October last year. Grey Power Marlborough applied for a grant to hold an afternoon tea for 80+ members. They felt this age range represented those most affected by the lockdowns and isolation.

More than 70 seniors attended the event, which was held at the Scenic Hotel in Blenheim. Transport was arranged for those who could not attend otherwise.

The committee organised a speaker from the Totara Club, which holds weekday programmes for seniors, and one of the committee members brought his guitar along so everyone could all have a singalong.

Many of the attendees said it was the first social outing they had had since Covid made an appearance. General consensus was to ask, “when is the next one?”.

The event was so successful that our plan is to hold more of these events during the year.
Many thanks to committee and office staff who acted as hosts and spent time with all who attended.
