Saying goodbye to someone who has made such a huge contribution to the smooth running of Grey Power’s administration was never going to be easy. Nevertheless, a farewell lunch in July for Janice Harding was not about tears.
Instead, there was banter, discussion and laughter in recognition of the amazing 26 years of Federation business Janice has handled with competence and patience. And, while there was regret that this capable administrator was moving on to new horizons, there were also many good wishes as she seeks fresh challenges.
Janice started work at the Federation head office when it was in Papatoetoe, Auckland.
“Previously it had been located upstairs in Smith & Caughey’s city department store. Then, from Papatoetoe we had two moves within Papakura before settling into the present Pukekohe premises three years ago.”
During her long service with the Federation, Janice became adept in every aspect of administration but she says the job wasn’t just about paperwork.
“The office fields all sorts of queries from the different associations and from individual members too.
“The job was really varied but, most importantly, I had the privilege of working with so many dedicated, kind-hearted and talented colleagues, great Federation presidents and hardworking association committee members whose contributions to Grey Power are immeasurable. I thank them all and will miss them.”
Federation president, Gayle Chambers said the work carried out by Janice had been invaluable and her sensitive consideration of members who called the office with a diverse range of queries had been greatly appreciated.
“The Federation thanks Janice and wishes her well as she looks to a new direction.”
