Battling costs at every quarter

What an excellent March magazine. Initially, I had severe reservations about the costs of publishing a hard copy simply because of the financial impact of burgeoning mail costs on Grey Power resources. However, I have changed my mind and agree that a $10 annual subscription, paid direct to our national coffers, is entirely worthwhile to sustain what the Federation is delivering.

There was much to digest in the March issue but today I’m addressing the costly challenge seniors face when trying to maintain a driver’s licence.

I spent 10 minutes with my doctor who took my blood pressure, asked me to read the eye chart then tapped my knees with a little hammer. I was then declared fit to continue driving and was charged $80 – i.e. $480/hour! On discussing this with friends, one told me he finished up paying $1000 before being signed off as driver capable.

This issue MUST be revisited and I believe the onus is on expertise from Grey Power to design a test procedure which is common to ALL evaluators acting for the Government’s test demand. Don’t leave it to the medical profession or the vehicle ministry/industry – I doubt there will ever be agreement and the matter sorted.
