From the Editor…November 2025

Well, we are on the way to Christmas and, hopefully, a relaxed, warm summer where leisure activities prevail. And, if the latter is the case, then I can highly recommend two books to members who love to read. They should also appeal to those who cherish art, appreciate beauty, enjoy humour and respect diversity.

Helen Perry – Editor

Generally, I wouldn’t feature two artists and their work in the same issue. However, in this instance I was fascinated by the contrast between Adventures in Art (page 24) and An Eccentric History in Batik – The Art of Dinah Priestly and Tony Burton (page 21). They are as different as oil and graphite.

I read both, end to end, and choosing was just too difficult. So, instead I commend both to the readers, the artists, the romantics and the activists among you. I feel sure you will have something to gain.

Of course, this month’s issue is the last for 2025 which has been a somewhat befuddled year regarding distribution of the magazine. The introduction of a $10 annual subscription to cover postage for four issues has confused some members.

So, if you have been missing the magazine in your letterbox and still wish to receive it by post, check out the instructions on page 4. It is important that the payee’s name (as written in the article) and the Federation bank account number is correct when making the payment from your bank account. Otherwise, all is straight forward.

I’m hoping this issue will engage our readers who, I know, have such diverse views and interests.

I do love to receive your letters but I must ask contributors to keep these to around 350 words and other pertinent items to no more than 650-700 words. I would love to have space for more but that is seldom possible.

In the meantime, I am keeping fingers crossed that the weather delivers some sunshine and warmth – we have had a lot of overcast and rainy days in my part of the woods. I also send warm thoughts to members who have lost family and friends these past months or who are struggling with illness.

To you all, keep the faith, stay positive, enjoy every day.

Blessings to all,
Kia kaha
