The magazine’s new column, Chit Chat, aimed at giving readers a laugh, has started to take off.
Last month Waitakere Grey Power member, Anne Martin, provided our first contribution (other than that from the editor). This month Great Barrier Island resident, Joanna Piekarski (Waiheke & Gulf Islands Association) sent us a little gem which gave her and husband Ro a laugh but I’m thinking both were secretly thrilled! She writes:
Ro and I have been together 53 years, since our 20s, so you can imagine we’re not very young. Yet last summer when our young friend Lucia – in her mid-30’s – was sitting at our table she glanced across at Ro leaning against the door frame wearing singlet and shorts. What a surprise to hear Lucia say, “He’s still hot!”
No doubt Ro was delighted but I thought the remark was extremely funny. I laughed and laughed, and I’m still laughing when I think of it.
Editor: I was tickled pink by this anecdote; how wonderful youth can still recognise a handsome man even if he has passed his four score years and ten!
Here’s hoping more readers have a short, humorous tale to tell from their daily life, remarks by grandchildren, pet antics, spousal boo-boos, trip ups or mis-interpretations and more. Do share! Just email the editor and please add your phone number so I can contact you if necessary.
